Every workspace comes with a shared Vocily phone number so you can hear your agent on a real phone before you connect a carrier account or rent a number of your own. You will find it in Deploy → Outbound From Number on any agent, listed as (Test Number), and in Phone Numbers → Workspace as Vocily test line.
Getting your own number takes time - a carrier account needs credentials, and a rented number needs KYC and a compliance filing. The Test Number exists so you are not blocked on that to try your agent on a real call.

What you can do with it

Place outbound test calls from the Vocily dashboard. That is the whole feature.
  1. Open your agent, go to Deploy → Outbound From Number, and select the number marked (Test Number). Save the agent.
  2. Select Test → Call.
  3. Enter the number to dial, with country code.
  4. Check that Calling from shows the Test Number.
  5. Select Call Now.
Calling from is not a picker - it shows the agent’s Outbound From Number and nothing else. Until you set one in Deploy it reads No default outbound number set and Call Now stays disabled, even though the Test Number is already in your workspace.
The call behaves like any other call: live transcript, recording, transcript analysis, and an entry in Conversations.

What you cannot do with it

The Test Number is for supervised testing from the dashboard. It is deliberately blocked everywhere else, and each of these returns a clear error rather than failing quietly:
Inbound will never work on the Test Number, and this is not a setting you can change. The number is shared by every Vocily workspace, so an incoming call has no way to know which workspace - or which agent - it was meant for. To receive calls you need your own number.

It is billed like any other call

The Test Number is not free minutes. Calls from it are charged to your organization wallet exactly like calls from a number you own, including the per-minute telephony charge. See Voice call pricing. Two practical consequences:
  • A funded wallet is required. With a zero balance the call is refused before it dials, the same as any other call.
  • There is no cap and no expiry. It does not run out after a trial period, and it does not disappear when you buy or connect your own number - it stays in the workspace as a testing line for as long as you want it.

When to move to your own number

The Test Number cannot carry production traffic. Move to your own number when you need any of the following:

Connect your carrier

Already pay for Plivo or VoBiz? Connect the account and import your numbers. Your carrier bills you directly.

Rent from Vocily

No carrier account? Buy a number inside Vocily. Billed to your wallet.
You need your own number for inbound calls, campaigns, API-placed calls, transfers, and caller ID that shows your business.
Because it is shared, the Test Number’s caller ID is not yours, and it is dialling many unrelated destinations across all Vocily accounts. Answer rates on it are not representative of what your own number will achieve.
