Every phone number your agents call from or answer on lives in the Phone Numbers page. A number is owned by the organization and assigned to one workspace at a time, so a team can hold its numbers in one place and hand them out as work moves between workspaces.
Phone numbers used to be connected and managed per workspace. They are now organization-owned. If you connected a carrier before this change, your numbers were kept and assigned to the workspace that had them.

Where numbers come from

Your own carrier account

Connect a Plivo or VoBiz account you already pay for, then import its numbers. Your carrier bills you directly.

Rented from Vocily

Buy a number inside Vocily with no carrier account of your own. Vocily bills it to your wallet.
Both kinds sit in the same list. A number’s Source column says which it is - Own account or Rented - because the available actions differ: only a rented number can be released back to the provider, and only a rented number carries a monthly charge from Vocily. There is also a third, which you do not own: the shared Vocily Test Number. It appears in every workspace so you can place outbound test calls before you have a number of your own. It is not part of your organization’s inventory - it cannot be assigned, transferred, released, or used for inbound - so it does not appear in the Organization view.

The two views

The Phone Numbers page has an Organization / Workspace toggle in the top right. Members and Viewers see only the Workspace view, with no toggle.

Organization view

The Organization view is where the inventory changes. It has two sections:
  • Carrier accounts (BYOC) - the Plivo or VoBiz accounts you have connected.
  • Organization phone numbers - every number the organization owns, and the workspace holding each.
Each column header in the numbers table filters or sorts that column: search by number, filter by source, compliance, workspace or status, and sort by when the number was added.

What each action does

A number in use cannot be moved

Moving or unassigning a number is refused while anything still points at it:
  • an agent answering inbound calls on it,
  • an agent using it as their default outbound number,
  • a batch still calling from it.
Vocily lists exactly what is in the way and asks you to detach those first. It will not quietly clear them for you - moving a number out from under a live agent changes which team answers a caller, and doing that silently is how a support line starts ringing into sales with nobody noticing.

Workspace view

The Workspace view is read-only. It lists the numbers assigned to the workspace you are in, which agent answers each one, and whether the number is currently active at the carrier. Attaching an agent to a number is done from the agent’s Deploy tab, not here.

Who can do what

Renting and releasing spend real money on Vocily’s provider account, and a compliance application is a legal statement made in your business’s name - so both are limited to Owners. Allocating a number that already exists is an Admin action.
