# Compliance

> Indian regulation requires a registered business behind every phone number.

India requires a registered business behind every phone number. Before you can rent an
Indian number from Vocily, you file a **compliance application** for the business that
number will be used for, and the provider verifies it.

<Note>
  This applies to numbers **rented from Vocily**. If you bring your own carrier account,
  your KYC is already handled in that provider account and there is nothing to file here.
</Note>

Compliance lives in **Settings → Compliance** and is **Owner-only**: a filing is a legal
statement made in your business's name, with its certificates attached.

## One application per business

Add one application per business you call on behalf of. An agency running numbers for
several clients files one per client; a single company files one.

The application is what a number is bought under, and a number stays with the business it
was bought for. Moving a number to a different business means releasing it and buying a
new one.

## What you need

| Field                    | What it is                                                                                    |
| ------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Registered business name | The business the number is for |
| Registration Certificate | Certificate of Incorporation, or a Udyam certificate if the business is registered as an MSME |
| GST certificate | The GST registration certificate (Form GST REG-06) |

Documents can be PDF, JPEG, or PNG, up to 10 MB each.

<Info>
  The provider reads the business details - CIN, company type, registry ID - off the
  certificates you upload. You do not type them in.
</Info>

## File an application

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Settings → Compliance">
    Select **New application**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the business name">
    Then upload both certificates in the same dialog.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Submit">
    Nothing is sent to the provider until you select **Submit**. Everything before that
    is a local draft you can come back to.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Statuses

| Status        | Meaning                                                                                 |
| ------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Draft** | Not sent yet. Open it, add the documents, then submit. |
| **Submitted** | With the provider. Indian local review is automated and usually answers within minutes. |
| **Accepted** | You can buy numbers for this business. |
| **Rejected** | Read the reason, replace the documents, and resubmit. |

Status updates arrive on their own. Vocily also re-checks submitted applications
periodically, so a filing settles without you refreshing.

## If an application is rejected

The rejection reason is shown verbatim on the application, exactly as the provider wrote
it. Paraphrasing it would be how the same mistake gets made twice.

The most common reason is a document the provider cannot verify - a screenshot, a scan of
the wrong certificate, or an expired one. Replace the documents on the same application
and resubmit; you do not create a new one.

## Documents are private

Uploaded certificates are visible only to the organization Owner, and every download is
recorded.
