# Roles and permissions

> Control who can view, build, manage members, and access workspaces.

Vocily uses roles to decide what each person can do. Roles are organization-level, and
some roles can also be limited to specific workspaces.

Vocily only makes the actions and information available to people with the required
permissions. Some controls may be hidden or disabled based on a person's role and workspace
access.

## Roles

| Role | What they can do |
| ---------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Owner** | Full access, including billing changes, organization settings, API keys, members, workspaces, and organization deletion. |
| **Admin** | Manage members and workspaces, plus everything a Member can do. Admins can access every workspace. |
| **Member** | Build and manage agents, knowledge, tools, phone numbers, calls, batches, widgets, analytics, WhatsApp, and WhatsApp campaigns in assigned workspaces. Members can also view billing. |
| **Viewer** | Read-only access to agents, knowledge, tools, phone numbers, batches, widgets, and aggregate analytics. Viewers cannot edit, access raw call recordings/transcripts, access raw WhatsApp messages, or view billing. |

## Workspace access

Owners and Admins are organization-wide. They can access every workspace in the
organization.

Members and Viewers are workspace-scoped. When inviting or editing them, choose which
workspaces they can access. The workspace switcher only shows workspaces available to
the current user.

## Invite teammates

From **Settings → Members**, you can invite teammates by email.

When sending an invite:

* Choose a role: Admin, Member, or Viewer.
* For Members and Viewers, choose at least one workspace.
* Invites expire after seven days.

The invited person must sign in or sign up with the invited email address before joining
the organization.

## Change roles

Changing a role can change both permissions and workspace scope.

* Promoting a Member or Viewer to Admin makes them organization-wide.
* Demoting an Admin to Member or Viewer makes them workspace-scoped.
* Changing a Viewer to a build-capable role uses a member seat.
* Changing a Member or Admin to Viewer frees a member seat.
* Only an existing Owner can grant the Owner role. The organization must always retain at
  least one Owner.

## Plan limits

Member seats count Owners, Admins, and Members. Viewers are free and do not count
against the member limit.

| Plan | Members | Workspaces |
| -------- | ------: | ---------: |
| Free | 1 | 1 |
| Starter | 5 | 2 |
| Business | 10 | 5 |

If you reach a plan limit, remove members or workspaces, change someone to Viewer, or
choose a higher plan from [Billing](/account-workspace/billing).

## What's next

* Review account structure in [Account and workspace](/account-workspace/overview).
* Manage your plan in [Billing](/account-workspace/billing).
